When leveling jacks refuse to extend, the diagnosis sequence matters. The most common cause is low hydraulic fluid - check the reservoir sight gauge on the HWH or Lippert pump assembly. Low fluid causes no jack movement and, if continued, damages the pump. Top off with the specified hydraulic fluid and attempt the leveling cycle before calling for service. The second cause is a tripped thermal overload on the pump motor - if someone attempted to level on extremely uneven ground and ran the pump continuously for several minutes, the thermal cutout may have tripped. Most thermal cutouts reset automatically after 10-15 minutes of cooling. If fluid is at level and the thermal cutout has reset but jacks still will not extend, call us for solenoid or pump diagnosis.

The leveling solenoid valves control which cylinder port receives hydraulic pressure. When a solenoid fails, the jack it controls will not extend or retract - the other jacks may work normally. We test solenoid coil resistance and confirm the correct voltage is reaching each solenoid when the leveling control is activated. A solenoid that has failed electrically (open coil) reads infinite resistance on a meter. A solenoid that is stuck mechanically (contaminated hydraulic fluid) may test correctly electrically but still not operate. We distinguish between the two with a temporary solenoid swap test before recommending replacement.

Jacks that extend but unevenly - with one corner reaching its travel limit before the others - usually indicate a level sensor that has drifted out of calibration rather than a hydraulic fault. The level sensor tells the control board which jacks need to extend and how far. After any significant travel on Miami's road surfaces, the sensor baseline can shift slightly. Recalibration is a 30-45 minute electronic procedure that resets the sensor reference to actual level and is often all that is needed to restore even leveling. We carry the programming interfaces for HWH, Lippert OneControl, and Equalizer systems.

When leveling jacks will not extend and the RV is on uneven ground at a Miami campground, there are safe emergency options before calling for service. First, confirm the fluid level in the reservoir sight gauge - this takes 30 seconds and resolves the problem if the fluid has dropped. Second, allow 15 minutes for any tripped thermal overload to reset before retrying. Third, for HWH systems, the manual release handle allows gravity lowering of the jacks if manual leveling is acceptable for an overnight stay. Do not attempt to manually override a Lippert OneControl or Equalizer system without the specific service documentation - incorrect manual operation can damage the control board or cylinders. Call us with the system type and symptoms and we will advise the correct next step before dispatching.
Most likely the hydraulic fluid level dropped from a slow leak, or the thermal overload tripped from extended use. Check the fluid reservoir and allow 15 minutes for thermal reset before calling.
Calibration: $120-180. Solenoid: $180-280 per valve. Fluid top-off: $45-95. All flat-rate before dispatch.
Yes. HWH and most Lippert systems have a manual release that allows gravity lowering of the jacks. The manual is in your owner documentation; we can also walk you through it on the phone.
